This was the first appearance of diving at the Olympic Games, with one event held, a springboard diving competition, termed “Fancy Diving”. For many years, this has been considered a platform diving event, but Olympic diving gold medalist and historian Bob Clotworthy has shown fairly conclusive evidence that the event was held off a springboard. The venue was the Life Saving Exhibition Lake, which was also used for swimming and water polo in 1904. At the far event of the lake from where the aquatics competitions were held, cattle from various World’s Fair agricultural exhibits grazed and cooled themselves in the lake.
