Football at the 1908 Summer Olympics

Dates 19 – 24 October 1908
Medal Events 1

The 1908 Olympic football tournament is considered the first actual Olympic event by FIFA (Fédération Internationale de Football Association), which considers the 1900 and 1904 tournaments unofficial, or exhibitions, and does not recognize the 1906 tournament as Olympic, in concert with the IOC position. Six teams competed in London with most of the major football nations competing, save for Hungary and Bohemia, which were embroiled in ongoing political problems in the Balkans. France entered two teams, thus five nations competed. Although Great Britain competed as a unified entity, all the players were English. Ireland, Scotland and Wales were not yet FIFA members.

All of the events were held at the White City Stadium in Shepherd’s Bush, London, the main Olympic Stadium for the 1908 Olympics. It hosted a large majority of the events contested in 1908.
