No medals were awarded in this race because, in the final, the time limit was exceeded. The best description of the final comes from The Sporting Life: “This was a fiasco, for not only was the race declared void through the time limit being exceeded, but, in addition, Clarrie Kingsbury and Victor Johnson punctured. The former was thrown out of the race before half a lap had been covered, and Johnson’s mishap occurred at the beginning of the last banking. Most of the work was done on the banks at a crawl, but in spite of the red flag being shown the competitors, they continued the same rate of progression. They were hopelessly outside the time limit when the sprint came, when, with Johnson puncturing, Maurice Schillès and Ben Jones rode out an inches finish. The Frenchman got there by two or three inches. No official placing was given.” Other sources noted that Schillès won the race by a few inches.
