The final of this event, between the French tandem of Max Decugis and Maurice Germot and the Greek pair of Ioannis Ballis and Xenophon Casdagli, was a tremendous match, going five sets, although the last two sets were both won at love. Decugis’ record is noted below. Maurice Germot was the French singles champion in 1905-06 and 1910. Together, Decugis and Germot won the French doubles title in 1904, 1906-09, 1911-14, and 1920 - 10 titles in all. They had also won the German doubles title in 1902, and the French covered court doubles in 1910-12.

The top doubles’ team in 1906 was still probably Britain’s redoubtable Doherty brothers, Laurie and Reggie, who had been Wimbledon champions in 1897-1901, 1903-05, and were runners-up in 1906. In 1906, they had lost at Wimbledon to Britain’s Frank Riseley and Sydney Smith, who had been runners-up to the Dohertys in 1903-05.
