Belgium’s Cyrille Verbrugge won this event against the only other competitor, Ioannis Raisis, a Greek. Little else is known of this event. Verbrugge also won the masters épée event, in which Raisis finished third. Sabre for fencing masters, or teaching professionals, was only held at the Olympics in 1900 and 1906.
