Three nations participated, playing in a round-robin competition. Canada sending the 1927 Mann Cup winner, the New Westminster Salmonbellies. Johns Hopkins University represented the US, having won a play-off tournament for the occasion. The field was completed by a British squad.

The first match, Canada vs. the US was delayed due to the track and field competitions, but most of the spectators stayed to watch the game, with the Americans beating Canada 6-3. The match had to be briefly stopped as a massive fight broke out between the players, which the Dutch crowd - unfamiliar with the sport - greeted with both enthousiasm and disgust. The other two matches, less well attended, saw the British team upset the Johns Hopkins players 7-6, after which the Salmonbellies gained their victory with a comfortable 9-5. As each team won one of its matches and lost the other one, all of them tied for first place. It is unknown if any tie-breaking rules existed, or if a final ranking was even drawn up.
