In paleta goma, a small paddle (at most 55 cm long and 20 cm wide) is used to hit the ball, which is made of rubber (“goma” is rubber in Spanish).

The top four nations of the 1990 World Championships qualified for the Olympic demonstrations in Barcelona, which included the brothers Eduardo Ross and Ramón Ross from Argentina, who had claimed the world title in 1982 and 1990. The Ross brothers only teamed up twice during the tournament, both times against France, once in the preliminaries, and once in the final. The brothers won both times, clinching the title.
