German cross-country skier Andreas Schlütter made all his major podiums in the relay. He was third at the 2001 World Championships and runner-up in 2005 and 2007. At the Olympics he won bronze in 2002 and silver in 2006 at Salt Lake City and Torino respectively. Schlütter also won three World Cup races with the German relay squad. In total, he participated in three Winter Olympics from 1998-2006. Individually, he had his best result in 2002, placing fourth over 50 km.
Together with René Sommerfeldt, Schlütter entered the podium as third in the team sprint in a World Cup race at Pragelato, Italy, in 2005. Individually, he added two more third places in the sprint (2001) and the pursuit (2005). Schlütter was awarded the Silver Bay Leaf, Germany’s highest sports award. In December 2006 he retired to study dentistry. In addition to his studies, he also started a coaching career within the German Skiing Federation. In 2014, he was appointed as Sporting Director of German cross-country skiing.
