Biography

Jean-Guy Astresses had a relatively brief football career, serving as a goalkeeper with FC Girondins de Bordeaux of France’s Ligue 1 from 1951 through 1955. As a backup to Pierre Bernard, however, he only appeared in 18 matches during that time. Nonetheless, in 1955 he reached the finals of the Coupe de France with his team, but they lost to Lille OSC, after which he retired from active competition. He was also a reserve with the national team at the 1952 Helsinki Olympics, but as France was eliminated in its qualifying round match against Poland, he never saw any playing time, nor earned any international caps.
