Biography

Kelly Evernden was a New Zealand tennis player. Evernden was 16-years-old when he was hit by a car, causing multiple injuries, including a punctured lung, which was later removed during surgery. Despite this, he made a full recovery, playing professionally from 1985 to 1995. He achieved a career-best doubles ranking of 19 in the world in July 1988, and a singles ranking of 31 in the world in November 1989.

Evernden won his first ATP doubles title in April 1986 at the Cologne Grand Prix in Germany. His first singles title would come at the Bristol Open in England in June 1987. He won five ATP doubles titles and three ATP singles titles in his career. At Grand Slams he reached the quarter-finals in the singles at the 1987 Australian Open for his best result. His doubles record was similar, reaching the quarter-finals at all the Grand Slams apart from the French Open. In the mixed doubles he also reached the semi-finals of the 1990 US Open.

Evernden competed in the singles and doubles at the 1988 Seoul Olympics. In the singles he reached the second round before losing to Amos Mansdorf of Israel. In the doubles he teamed with Bruce Derlin with the pair also making it to the second round before their elimination.
