Biography

Hinrich Romeike is an eventing rider and was the 2008 double Olympic Champion, winning both individually and with the German team. He also won the 2006 World Championships with his team and placed fifth in the individual on his horse Marius. The same year he and his horse were elected Sportsman of the Year in Schleswig-Holstein.

At the 2004 Olympic Games he placed fifth in the individual and fourth together with the team. In the Grand Prix de Nations his teammate Bettina Hoy took a practice round just before the actual competition. Although she won the individual event and thus led the team standings, after repeated protests by the British, French and American teams, she received penalty points and was demoted to ninth place because of her crossing the start line before the final round, dropping the team to fourth place. Romeiko also won a bronze medal with the team at the 2003 European Championships and two silvers at the 2003 and 2005 German Championships. Professionally he is a practicing dentist at Nübbel near Rendsburg.
