Biography

Fred Daigle took up boxing at a young age and was winning youth titles by the age of 10. Eventually he won two Canadian national titles, one of which came in 1948 and led to his selection to represent his country in the bantamweight division at the 1948 London Olympics. There, he was disqualified in his first-round bout against Jimmy Carruthers of Australia. This was his only appearance at the Games, but he continued to compete on and off through 1953. By career he was an elevator mechanic, but also served in the Canadian Army during the Korean War, in addition to coaching young boxers.
