Biography

Gaston, Baron de Trannoy competed in equestrian events at the 1912 and 1920 Olympics, also serving on the Organizing Committee for equestrian at the 1920 Antwerp Games. He later served on the equestrian Grand Jury at four Olympics – 1924, 1928, 1936, 1956. Baron de Trannoy was a member of the bureau of the Fédération Equestre Internationale (FEI) from 1932-36, then served the FEI as Vice-President from 1936-42 and he was President from 1946-64. Baron de Trannoy was a career military man, reaching the rank of General. He was co-opted onto the IOC in June 1939, serving until September 1957, when he resigned and was named an Honorary Member.
