German equestrian Hermann Linkenbach won a gold medal with the German dressage team at the 1928 Olympics. He also came sixth in the individual event with Gimpel. By profession, Linkenbach was a cavalry captain, and became a Major General in 1941. During World War II he was awarded the Iron Cross class I and II. In 1945 he was commandant of Trieste for one month until the end of the war. He was then held in captivity until June 1947.
