Canadian competitive ice dancer Alexandra Paul competed with her partner, and future husband, Mitchell Islam. Paul and Islam first had success at the 2010 Canadian Figure Skating Championships where they won the junior ice dancing title. From their national success they then competed at the 2010 World Junior Figure Skating Championships in the Netherlands where they won silver. Moving up to the senior level they continued to have success at the national championships with six-consecutive top-five finishes, including three bronze medals (2011, 2014, 2015). Following their bronze at the 2014 Canadian championships the pair were selected to skate at the 2014 Sochi Olympics where they came 18th. They retired from competitive skating at the end of 2016, with Paul and Islam getting married in 2021. Less than two years later, however, Paul was killed in a road accident in Melancthon, Ontario. She was 31 years old.
