Biography

Major Duggie Stewart made his Olympic début in 1948 in the three-day event but was eliminated after his horse pulled up lame in the cross-country stage. By 1952, Stewart had switched from eventing to show jumping and at the Helsinki Olympics won a gold medal in the team event and placed 14th in the individual competition. Duggie Stewart was educated at Rugby and later commanded the Royal Scots Greys. On retiring from the Army he became a farmer.
