Biography

Ian Matos was a Brazilian diver who finished eighth in the synchronized springboard at the 2016 Rio de Janeiro Olympics. At the 2010 South American Games Matos won three bronze medals, on the 1-metre and 3-metre springboards and in synchro springboard. He also competed three times at the Pan American Games. Matos died very young from a non-COVID related pulmonary infection, followed by cardiac arrest. Matos bravely came out as gay in 2014, one of the first top international divers to do so.
