Biography

Hungary’s Imre Géra began cycling with DVTK in 1962 before joining Miskolc VSC in 1966, spending the rest of his career with the club. In 1968 Géra was selected to represent the national cycling team at the Mexico City Olympics, finishing 21st in the road race and 17th in the team time trial. Four years later he returned to the Olympics, riding the same two events at the München Games, with Hungary finishing seventh in the team time trial. One year earlier, the same quartet of riders also finished seventh in the same event at the UCI World Championships.

From 1969 to 1975 Géra rode in six editions of the Peace Race, placing second on the individual time trial stage in 1973. That same year he also won stage seven of the Tour of Algeria. Throughout his career Géra has countless domestic victories and podiums before retiring from competitive cycling in 1978. Following his retirement he had a variety of jobs, including working as a bricklayer and an industrial climber to renovate tall buildings, and spent time as a locksmith in Germany.
