Francisco Huerta

During the first half of the 1970s road and track cyclist Francisco Huerta represented the Mexican national team at multiple international sporting events, winning several medals. In 1970 Huerta was part of the quartet that won bronze in the 4,000 metres team pursuit at the Central American and Caribbean Games. One year later he competed at the Pan American Games in Cali, winning another bronze on the track, this time in the 4,000 metres individual pursuit.

In 1972 Huerta made his first of two appearances at the Olympics, riding on both the road and track at the München Games. Whilst he did not finish in the road race, he did place 25th in the team time trial with his compatriots, in addition to finishing 11th in the individual pursuit. Two years later he returned to Cali, this time for the Pan American Cycling Championships, where he won gold in the team time trial and silver in the team pursuit.

Huerta had his best medal haul at the 1975 Pan American Games in Mexico City, winning gold in both the team time trial and the 4,000 metres individual pursuit, along with bronze in the 4,000 metres team pursuit. The following year he returned to the Olympics, riding in the team time trial in Montréal, in addition to winning another gold at the Pan American Cycling Championships, with victory in the team pursuit.
