Biography

Gabriel Moiceanu took up competitive cycling in 1952 and, in an amateur career that lasted through 1968, rose to become one of Romania’s dominant performers. He captured his first of 20 national titles in 1954, when he won the 200 kilometers, and participated in his first of six editions of the Peace Race one year later. He was runner-up in the Tour of Romania in 1956 and won it in 1958. He then came second again in 1959 before representing Romania at the 1960 Rome Olympics, where he was sixth in the 100 kilometers team time trial and failed to finish in the individual road race. At the 1964 Tokyo Olympics he was 57th in the road race, and was fourth in the Tour of Tunisia that same year. At the end of his career, he was runner-up at the 1968 Tour of Morocco. He later worked as a cycling trainer.
