Biography

Valdemar Nielsen achieved his first podium finish - third place - at the Stjerneløbet (Star Race) in Roskilde; he went on to improve on that result by winning back-to-back titles (1903, 1904). In 1905, he placed second in the Danish road race championship.

Nielsen’s victory in the 1911 Zealand Tour probably earned him a place on the Danish team for the 1912 Olympic Games in Stockholm, where he finished 72nd in the individual road time trial (best Danish rider) and eighth with the team as a non-scoring member. One year later, he finished third in the Zealand Tour, which obviously marked his cycling career on the national level. In 1941, at the age of 62, he was listed as a participant in a 156 km touring event, the traditional Nordsjællandstur (North Zealand Tour) of the Danish Bicycle Clubs Tourists (DBCT).
