During the late 1960s and early 1970s Guatemalan cyclist Evaristo Oliva competed in races across Central and South America. In 1966 Oliva finished eighth overall at the Vuelta a Guatemala before representing the nation at the Mexico City Olympics two years later. At the Games he finished 48th in the road race, almost 16 minutes behind the race winner, and 21st in the team time trial. One year later he had several podiums at the Vuelta a Guatemala before riding in the 1970 edition of the Vuelta al Táchira in Venezuela.
