Biography

From 1955 to 1970 Polish cyclist Wiesław Podobas represented Legia Warszawa. In his first two years Podobas finished second and third, respectively, at the Tour de Pologne, before winning the overall classification of the race in 1959. This earned him a place on the Olympic team for the 1960 Roma Games where he finished 10th in the 100 kilometres team time trial. The following year he became the Polish amateur road race champion, in addition to riding in the Milk Race in England. Podobas continued to ride in the Tour de Pologne during the first half of the 1960s, with a best finish of fifth in 1964. Away from cycling he worked as a car mechanic.
