Biography

Hailed as one of the best Slovenian cyclists of all time Franc Škerlj had an impressive record across Yugoslavia and Europe, winning more than 140 one-day races. In 1962 Škerlj won both the Tour of Croatia-Slovenia and the Tour of Yugoslavia. He won saw him win back-to-back titles in the Istrian Spring Trophy in 1965-66, with Škerlj winning another edition of the Tour of Yugoslavia in 1967. A year later he finished in third place at the national road race championships and represented Yugoslavia at the 1968 Mexico City Olympics in the team time trial.
