Biography

Vilho Oskari Tilkanen participated in the road time trial at the 1912 Olympic Games in Stockholm, finishing 21st in the individual road time trial as the second-best finisher from Finland and helped his team to finish fifth in the team event. No other results are documented for Tilkanen, who received a permit to ride a bicycle from the Turku Police Department in 1910.

Tilkanen took over the family farm in Karinainen in 1919 after marrying Elsa Vilhelmiina Saarelainen. The couple had three sons and one daughter, though two of the sons died at a young age from tuberculosis. His wife lived to the age of 110, outliving her husband by more than 60 years.
