Biography

Jørgen Hansen was a Danish boxer better known for his professional career. He turned pro shortly after the 1968 Olympic Games, and had a long career, only retiring in 1982. Hansen’s career record was 78 wins (35 by KO), and 14 losses. He fought mostly in Europe, with only one bout in the USA, a match against Pipino Cuevas that he lost by TKO in 1981.

Hansen fought for the WBC world light welterweight title in 1973, but was stopped by Italian Bruno Arcari. Hansen was European Boxing Commission welterweight champion from 1977-81. After winning the title he lost it in his next bout but then regained it. He later lost briefly on a disqualification but won the title for a third time and then defended it six consecutive times, eventually winning nine title bouts.
