Biography

Croatian cyclist Janez Žirovnik finished third in the road race at the Yugoslavia national championships in both 1956 and 1958. One year later, Žirovnik helped the national team to win the team classification at the Tour of Yugoslavia, despite suffering a serious crash during the race. In 1960 he had the best results of his career, with victory in the road race at the national championships and the overall classification at the Tour of Yugoslavia. These results earned Žirovnik a place on the Olympic team for the Roma Games, where he finished eighth in the individual road race. One year later he won his second title at the national championships before retiring shortly after.
