Jean Dubois spent his entire domestic field hockey career with the Royal Léopold Club of Bruxelles, winning nine national championships (1951, 1952, 1955, 1959-61, 1966-68) and not retiring until the age of 42. Internationally, he represented Belgium at four consecutive editions of the Summer Olympics, 1948-1960, with his best result coming in the consolation quarterfinals at the 1952 Helsinki Games, where his country was disqualified for using oversized sticks. Despite the dearth of organized international opportunities, Dubois managed to become the first Belgian player to earn 100 caps, totaling 105 in all, and he earned Belgium’s prestigious Trophée du Mérite Sportif in 1959. His son, Serge, also represented Belgium in field hockey and competed at the 1976 Montreal Olympics.
