Biography

Franz Kugler was a member of the St. Louis Southwest Turnverein team that finished third in the tug-of-war. He also medalled in weightlifting and wrestling, making him the only man to have ever won medals in three different sports at one Olympic Games. Kugler worked as a brewer in St. Louis. Although born in Germany, he became a US citizen in 1913, and he did not speak English at the time of the 1904 Olympics. The International Olympic Committee lists him as American in 1904.
