Between 1957-78 David Judge played hockey for Ireland 124 times and was captain on 30 occasions. Judge played hockey while at Dublin University, but made his name with Three Rock Rovers and won everything in the Irish game, including the Leinster League and Irish Senior Cup titles.
A defender, Judge played in two editions of the European Cup and the 1978 Hockey World Cup, but the highlight of his career was, along with fellow Dublin-man Harry Cahill, appearing for Great Britain at the Tokyo Olympics. Despite being Irish, Judge was allowed to represent GB because his grandparents held British passports at the time the Irish Free State was formed in 1922.
After his retirement, Judge coached the Avoca men´s team and the Old Alex’s women´s team. He also became president of the Leinster Hockey Association and was one of the first inductees into the Irish Hockey Association Hall of Fame.
Judge was married to the daughter of Dermot Findlater, also a Three Rock player and former president of the Irish Hockey Union.
