Biography

Niel Livingstone attended Rugby School, where he was appointed captain of the hockey first XI in 1955. He went to Worcester College, Oxford and won the first of three consecutive Blues against Cambridge in 1957, and in 1958 was assistant secretary of the Oxford University Hockey Club.

Livingstone played international hockey for Scotland and made his Great Britain début against Belgium in 1959. A medical student, he worked at St. Thomas´ Hospital and was a member of their hockey team, when he also won county honours with Middlesex. A half-back, Livingstone was a member of the Great Britain team that finished fourth at the 1960 Roma Olympics. After leaving St. Thomas´ Hospital, Livingstone spent 40 years in general practice at Summertown, Oxford. He died following a stroke on the penultimate day of a family holiday in France.
