Antonio Vargiu was an Italian field hockey player who won three national titles with HC Roma. During the early 1960s Vargiu was also part of the national team and competed at his home Olympics in 1960, playing in all five of Italy’s matches. Three years later he won bronze with the team at the Mediterranean Games in Napoli. After his playing career he had further success with HC Roma, winning a national title as a coach. Tragically, Vargiu was hit by a motorcycle in mid-November 2025, dying from his injuries two weeks later.
