Rhea Silvia Radu

Rhea Silvia Radu graduated in 1926 from the Academy of Fine Arts in București. In 1930, she exhibited together with her teacher Ipolit Strâmbu (1871-1934) in the famous “Mozart” exhibition hall. Due to the quality of her paintings, Radu received, from the Romanian state, a scholarship in France, where she perfected her skills from 1932-34 in the studios of the Grande Chaumière, under the famous painter Othon Friesz (1879-1949).

A crucial point in her artistic development was the contact with Italian painting in the late 1930s. In the following years, Radu participated regularly in the art salons in București. She remained within the framework of a slightly romantic realism, painting scenes, landscapes, and faces from her rural surroundings.

After 1947, Radu settled in Sibiu, where she lived until the end of her life. There, she was a member of the local branch of the Association of Fine Artists. Her nephew was the famous sculptor Niculae Agârbiceanu (1908-1991). In 1952 she exhibited her oil painting Aeromodellists.
