Biography

Alexander Koch won the gold medal with the German foil fencing team at the 1992 Barcelona Olympics. Four years later, the team placed a disappointing sixth. Individually, he was eliminated in the second round at the Atlanta Games. In 1989 and 1993, Koch won the individual gold medal at the World Championships, as well as the team gold in 1993. He added two more team silvers in 1989 and 1994.

In 1992, Koch received the German media prize Bambi with the foil team and was also awarded the Silver Bay Leaf, Germany’s highest sports award. Koch studied machine construction, in which he subsequently graduated.
