Biography

Ervin Mészáros was a fencer for the Magyar Atlétikai Club (MAC) between 1894-1927. He competed in both sabre and foil, achieving his major titles in sabre. He could not compete at the 1904 and 1908 Olympic Games because the Vienna Ministry of Defence did not allow monarchy officers to compete in Hungarian colours. From 1912-26, Mészáros was a member of the successful Hungarian sabre team. At the 1912 Summer Olympics they won the team title, while Mészáros won the individual sabre bronze medal. An honorary member of the Hungarian Fencing Federation, he studied law at the University of Budapest during his active sporting career.
