Biography

Hernán Gumy was an Argentine tennis player who played professionally from 1991 to 2001. Gumy achieved a career-best singles ranking of 39 in the world in August 1996, and a doubles ranking of 232 in the world in June 1994.

From 1994 to 1999 Gumy won six ATP Challenger singles titles on clay with the first coming at the Budapest Challenger. His only ATP Championship win came at the 1996 Chile Open when he beat Chile’s Marcelo Ríos in straight sets. He reached the third round at all the Grand Slams apart from Wimbledon where he never progressed past the first round. Gumy won gold in the singles at the 1995 Pan American Games, beating compatriot Javier Frana in the final. The following year he played in the singles at the 1996 Atlanta Olympics where he lost in the first round to Nicolás Pereira of Venezuela.
