Biography

As the son of a law professor, Harald Platou graduated in law in 1902. He then worked as a clerk at the magistrate’s office in the Vinger and Odalen constituency before he went to England for further studies. After his return, he joined a law firm in Oslo (then Kristiania) as a partner and senior lawyer.

In fencing, he represented the Kristiania Fekteklub and was one of the co-founders of the Norwegian Fencing Association in 1911. In 1912, he competed at the Stockholm Olympic Games in the individual épée event but was eliminated in round one. In addition to fencing, he was an avid hunter and acted as secretary of the Norwegian Hunters and Fishermen’s Association beginning in 1910, retiring after 25 years and becoming an honorary member. He was also vice-chairman of the Norwegian Deer Dog Club and the Norwegian Kennel Club.

In 1908, Platou married Fanny Blix with whom he had two sons.
