Biography

Fencer Iosif Budahazi represented Romania at the 1972 München Games. He finished fourth with the sabre team and was eliminated in the semifinals of the individual event. He then emigrated to Germany and taught fencing there under the name of Josef Brem.

Brem gained German citizenship and represented Germany as Josef Brem in fencing’s Veteran World Championships and became a bronze medalist (2000) and also a gold medalist (2001) in the 50-59 age group of men’s sabre. Brem was also engaged as a sports administrator for many years, and was vice-president for people’s sports in the Lower Saxony Fencing Association.
