Biography

Konstantin Vaterkampf was the son of an officer of the same name. He himself also pursued a military career. After graduating from the Pavlovsk Military School, he was commissioned as a second lieutenant in the infantry of the Russian imperial army in 1909. Together with his older brother Evgeny, he served in the 104th Ustyug Infantry Regiment. During World War I, Vaterkampf was still with this regiment in the rank of staff captain when he was awarded the Order of St. Anna, 2nd Class with Swords, in 1916.
