Biography

Walter Widemann was a member of the Swiss Armed Forces and fenced with the Unteroffiziersgesellschaft (UOG) in Zürich. He won the 1941 military championship title in sabre, and was a member of the Swiss Olympic sabre team on two occasions, in 1936 and 1948 where he was the oldest member of the fencing delegation, at age 54. Widemann also won a national championship title in 1940, defeating the defending titleholder, Adolf Stocker, and was the runner-up in 1945 to Otto Greter.
