Biography

Norman Lewis fenced for New York University and Salle Santelli in New York. He was Intercollegiate Fencing Association (IFA) foil champion in 1935-37 and won the épée championship in 1937. Lewis was Amateur Fencers League of America (AFLA) foil champion in 1939 and won the épée title in 1948-50. He later went into administration in fencing, captaining the 1968 US Olympic fencing team, and serving as AFLA President from 1965-68. During his administration, AFLA membership tripled.
