Biography

Chris O’Loughlin grew up in a Hollywood family as his father Gerald starred as Lt. Ed Ryker in the 1970s television drama “The Rookies,” and his mother was VP of casting for Columbia Television. But instead of acting, Chris opted for fencing and became one of the top junior fencers in the country while at Oakwood School in North Hollywood, in 1985 becoming the youngest senior US Championship men’s épée finalist until that time. He attended the University of Pennsylvania where he won the NCAA title in épée as a freshman and made All-American all four years. During that time he also won the Junior National Championship. O’Loughlin went on to earn a masters’ degree from Columbia.

O’Loughlin later won multiple team épée US Championships as part of the NYAC and garnered the individual épée title in 2000. In addition to competing at the 1992 games, O’Loughlin won a silver medal at the Maccabiah Games in 1989, and won a bronze medal at the 1991 Pan American Games. O’Loughlin served as chairman of the NYAC Fencing program and as a USFA Athletes Representative for many years.

O’Loughlin has held multiple executive roles in the telecommunications infrastructure and software industry, most recently as vice-president of the Americas for the venture backed start-up CENX. He got his start in telecom through the USOC Olympic Job Opportunity Program with NYNEX (later Verizon) in 1990. O’Loughlin was inducted into the University of Pennsylvania Hall of Fame and later competed in veteran’s fencing competitions.
