Biography

Tyrone Simmons fenced at the University of Detroit where he won the NCAA foil championship in 1971-72. He placed second in the US Nationals in foil in 1970 and 1971. He won a gold medal in team foil at the 1971 Pan American Games. Simmons was an African-American, the second to compete for the US in fencing at the Olympics, after Uriah Jones.
