Biography

Joelle Schad was a professional tennis player from the Dominican Republic who achieved a career-best singles ranking of #219 in the world in October 1996, and a doubles ranking of #166 in the world in March 1997. Schad played for the Dominican Republic’s Fed Cup team from 1990 to 2013.

Schad won her first ITF singles and doubles titles at the same tournament in Santo Domingo in November 1994, with victory against Paula Cabezas in the singles and pairing with compatriot Noelia Serra in the doubles. Schad went on to win a further three singles titles and nine doubles titles.

At the 1991 Pan American Games Schad won silver in the singles, after losing to Pam Shriver, and bronze in the mixed doubles with partner Rafael Moreno. At the Central American and Caribbean Games Schad won two golds, two silvers, and four bronze medals. She competed in the singles at the 1996 Atlanta Olympics but lost in the first round in straight sets to Martina Hingis.
