Freestyle wrestler Donald MacNiven was a reserve for the featherweight competition at the 1924 Paris Olympics. He was a former Scottish amateur champion whose life was tragically cut short at the age of 28. While attending a camp at Rhyl, North Wales, with the 21st Glasgow River Scouts in 1931, MacNiven fell heavily while wrestling with a colleague and was completely paralysed. He died shortly afterwards in hospital.
