Biography

Hassan El-Far joined El-Mukhtalat (renamed Farouk club in 1941, now Zamalek) in 1930 and remained with them through the entirety of his career, through 1947. During that time, he won the Cairo League (predecessor to the current Egyptian Premier League) seven times (1932, 1934, 1940, 1941, 1944, 1945, and 1947) and the Egypt Cup six times (1932, 1935, 1938, 1941, 1943, and 1944). Internationally, he represented Egypt at the 1934 World Cup, where the nation was eliminated after a 4-2 loss against Hungary in their first match, and the 1936 Berlin Olympics, where he was again eliminated in round one, following a 3-1 loss to the upcoming silver medalists from Austria.

Following his retirement from active competition, El-Far spent 10 years as coach of the Farouk youth team (known as Zamalek after 1952). He then became coach of the Egypt Spinning and Weaving Company Team in Kafr El-Dawwar (near Alexandria), where he discovered Hassan Shehata, who would become one of Egypt’s most well-known players and coaches. El-Far continued coaching until he was hospitalized following two heart attacks. The Egyptian Football Association delayed providing him a subsidy to help him recover, and only approved it on the day of his death. His brother Sharif was also a footballer and represented Egypt at the 1952 Helsinki Games.
