József Bozsik was one of the members of the legendary Mighty Magyars, possibly the best team in the world in the 1950s. As a midfielder, he played the final of the 1952 Olympics (which Hungary won) and the 1954 World Cup final (which was shockingly lost to West Germany). Bozsik furthermore played in the 1958 World Cup (1st round exit). In all, Bozsik won 101 caps, as of 2010 still the only Hungarian to reach the number of 100. Domestically, Bozsik played for Honvéd (earlier named Kispest AC) for 20 seasons. He played alongside his brother István, the goalkeeper, for a few seasons. With Honvéd, he enjoyed five national titles. He later became a board member, and served as the club’s manager in 1966-1967. He was also made national team coach in 1974, but had to step down due to poor health. In 1953, Bozsik was “elected” a member of parliament for the Hungarian communist party, who had put him on the list due to the popularity of the national football team. He was removed from his seat in 1957. Bozsik died in 1978, but was memorized in 1986 when the renovated Honvéd stadium was renamed Bozsik Stadion.
