Magnus Gustafsson

Magnus Gustafsson was a Swedish tennis player who played professionally from 1986 to 2002. Gustafsson achieved a career-best singles ranking of 10 in the world in July 1991, and a doubles ranking of 77 in the world in November 1989. He was part of Sweden’s team that won the Davis Cup in 1998.

Gustafsson won his first ATP singles title in May 1991 at the BMW Open, beating Guillermo Pérez Roldán of Argentina in straight sets. He won a further 13 titles during his career, with his last victory coming in July 2000 at the Dutch Open. Gustafsson only won one doubles title when he and Magnus Larsson won the 1998 Swedish Open. His best result at a Grand Slam was when he reached the quarter-finals in the singles at the 1994 Australian Open.

Gustafsson competed in the singles at the 1992 Barcelona Olympics and the 1996 Atlanta Olympics. In Barcelona he lost in the second round to Spain’s Jordi Arrese, and in Atlanta he again lost in the second round, this time to Greg Rusedski of Great Britain. After his retirement as a player Gustafsson became an in-demand tennis coach, training several members of the ATP Tour.
