Biography

Lucjan Brychczy flirted with boxing briefly before taking up football after World War II. He began his senior career with ŁTS Łabędy Gliwice and had a brief spell with Piast Gliwice in 1954 before being conscripted into the military and joining Legia Warsaw, where he would remain through 1972. During that time, he won the Polish Championship (1955, 1956, 1969, 1970) and the Polish Cup (1955, 1956, 1964, 1966) four times. Internationally, he represented Poland at numerous tournaments, including the 1960 Rome Olympics, where his nation was eliminated in the preliminary round. Following his retirement from active competition, he occasionally served the role of top manager of his former team, helping them win Polish Cups in 1973, 1980, and 1990. He remained involved with the club in various capacities for most of the remainder of his life.
