Biography

Byron Black was a Zimbabwean tennis player. After turning professional in 1991 he became the number one ranked doubles player in the world in February 1994. With his brother Wayne, he played in the Davis Cup for his country.

Black played mainly in doubles tournaments, winning the French Open in 1994. He also reached the finals of the Australian Open twice and Wimbledon once. As a singles player Black was ranked 22 in the world in April 1996. His best singles performances came at the US Open and Wimbledon where he reached the quarter-finals in 1995 and 2000, respectively. Black competed in both the singles and doubles tournaments at the 1996 Atlanta Olympics. In the singles he reached the second round, but lost in the first round with his brother in the doubles.
